If you are considering adding a dog to your household, please be aware that Labradors are marvelous dogs, but they are not for everyone. They require a serious commitment of time and training, particularly as puppies (and they're often puppies mentally until at least three years of age). This time and effort is a great investment because you'll most likely end up with a very special dog that's a joy to live with. But if you don't make the investment, you might end up with a large, digging, chewing, barking, out-of-control animal! So THINK carefully two or three times before buying a cute puppy.

Read our Guide to Buying a Labrador and check out the Labrador FAQ ("frequently asked questions").

Labs are immensely popular right now, which has lead to a plethora of puppies bred by people who really don't put enough thought into what they are doing. Please be careful. Buy from a serious breeder who plans litters carefully, screens for proper temperament, socializes the puppies, obtains health clearances on all breeding stock, and breeds with the good of the breed in mind.
