At a public appearance, the writer of this song, Randy Rogel,
said that the end of each chorus had been changed. If I recall
correctly from the report of this appearance that someone posted
on alt.tv.animaniacs years ago when it happened, instead of
It's big and black and inky
And we are small and dinky
It's a big universe and you're not
the first chorus ended:
You might think that you're essential
Try inconsequential
It's a big universe and you're not.
The second chorus, instead of
Though we don't know how it got here
We're an important part here
It's a big universe and it's ours
it originally ended:
It's big and black and inky
And we are small and dinky
It's a small world after all!
and then a Twilight Zone type of motive on the
punchline quote from the popular Disney song.
While I can't verify the second part, the first part
is substantiated by a radio appearance that Rob Paulsen
(Yakko) made on the Alex Bennett Show in San Francisco,
when he sang those lines as an example of the kind
of songs that they sing on Animaniacs.
A sound file of that will be provided if I'm ever
able to find my tapes. I moved them from where I normally
had them to someplace easier to get to, and now I can't
remember where that is. But at least I've ended up cleaning
my place as a result of searching...!
