The Carmel Bach Festival on

Bruno Weil, Music Director and
Conductor of the Carmel Bach Festival
This popular coastal festival is devoted to the music of J.S.
Bach and other great composers whose works reflect Bach's
inspirational influence, performed by international artists in the
cozy concert settings in Carmel, led by Music Director Bruno Weil.
KUSP has broadcast the Carmel Bach Festival since 1983. Festival
dates for 2008 are July 19 - August 9.

Festival
Much of our classical broadcasting in July and August is devoted
to the Carmel Bach Festival. There are seven concerts and recitals
from last year that have not yet aired.
2007 concerts
Sunday, July 6, 2008, 11 am, "Best of the Fest," highlights of
the 2007 season performed as the final concert
Sunday, July 13, 2008, 11 am, The Friday concert, Bruno Weil
conducts the Festival Orchestra in a program of classical symphonies
by JCF Bach, Haydn (No. 102) and Beethoven (No. 8).
Sunday, July 20, 2008, 11 am, "Romantic Twilight" presents nonets
for strings and winds by Clementi and Spohr.
Monday, July 21, 2008, 7 pm, Adams Fellows Showcase recital,
"Pillars of the Baroque," with arias by Bach and Handel.
Tuesday, July 22, 2008, 7 pm, "Madrigals to Modern," the Carmel
Bach Festival Youth Chorus conducted by John Koza
Wednesday, July 23, 2008, 7 pm, Abendmusik: Bach, Biber and
Buxtehude
Thursday, July 24, 2008, 7 pm, Viennese matinee features works by
Haydn and Mozart
2008 concerts
Sunday, July 27, 2008, 11 am, 2008 Opening Night Concert recorded
at 8 pm the night before. Bruno Weil conducts Mass in b minor by J.S.
Bach, with the Festival Chorale, Chorus, Youth Chorus, Orchestra, and
vocal and instrumental soloists.
Monday, July 28, 7 pm, Twilight Concert, Cantatas "a quattro"
features several of the major vocal and instrumental soloists in the
intimate setting of Church in the Forest.
Tuesday, July 29, 7 pm, Solo organ recital at the Mission. Andrew
Arthur performs music of J.S. Bach
Wednesday, July 30, 7 pm, Four generations of Bach. Yuko Tanaka
presents instrumental chamber music with harpsichord.
Thursday, July 31, 7 pm, "Bach Italian Style." Solo cantatas and
solo harpsichord music by J.S. Bach, and Ciacona for violin by
Bertali.
Sunday, August 3, 11 am, The Sunday concert presents J.S. Bach's
Cantata 21 and Brahms' A German Requiem
Monday, August 4, 7 pm, "Bohemian Twilight." Zelenka Trio Sonata
and Dvorak Serenade for Winds.
Tuesday, August 5, 7 pm, Sanford Sylvan sings Schubert's Die
Winterreise
Wednesday, August 6, 7 pm, Festive Brahms, including Liebeslieder
Walzes
Thursday, August 7, 7 pm, "Quintessentials," chamber music for
strings by Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven.

Monday, August 25, 7 pm, "Bach to Brahms." J.S. Bach, Cantata
225, Concerto for two violins, Concerto for three violins; Brahms,
Sextet op. 18.
Tuesday, August 26, 7 pm, "Aha! Concerto," part play, part spoken
word, an innovative program which showcases the return of the modern
piano.
Wednesday, August 27, 7 pm, The Mission Concert, "Songs of
Solace" features the Festival Chorale and members of the Festival
Orchestra in a program of music by J.S. Bach, Schütz, Schein and
Distler.
