My Review of the CellPort
3000, Full Instal Car Kit...
Rev.: 03-29-01-d
Now Installed...
Review. Overall, good (0-10 scale, and 10 is perfect), it gets a 7):
- Modern design,
- Works good,
- Generally works better that the OEM unit, the Motorola S6965B,
- Cool easy to use, one handed phone docking (with the Time Port P8767 phone), better than the OEM's,
- Good loud volume,
- Unlike the Motorola OEM unit, the CellPort doesn't have that dangling cord to inter connect to the control unit, instead just plugs into the bottom of the phone, this is much better,
- Good sounding audio (both way's),
- RF antenna connection seems much better (~3-6db) than the stock OEM Motorola unit (~1-3db), this means that more signal will get to the phone (and the cell site)!
- Mic is not aimmable, this make it more difficult to optimize to the the user (the speaker (person),
- Loud noises mutes the mic, So on bumpy roads, I cut out... (I had to move my mic to a less ideal location, to reduce the problem)
- Older StarTac's using the extra clip-on battery, requires you to remove that battery, to use the CellPort,
- Wire gauge small (~22G), may lead to premature failure, if installer isn't careful (should be ~18G),
- Doesn't come with any mounting hardware (the Nokia douse),
- Some soft noise can be heard from the speaker once the cell phone's (Time Port, P8767) battery is fully charged,
- Release for docking unit to cradle, is too prominent for sum thing not likely to be used?
- Phone shuts off after ignition key is turned off, there is no cancel, (on the Nokia car kit, any button push, cancels power off),
(Ideally, any button pushed on the phone cancels (phone) power off, for 30-60 minutes or so. Also if you dock the phone the power should come on for same amount of time.)- One the OEM (Motorola, S6965B) unit the 'control unit' is an extra piece, but on the CellPort (3000), it is part of the docking unit,
so the docking unit is larger than the OEM, this docking unit, is what you would mount to the cars dash.- Typical price, $160.
- Recommended source, Discount Cellular...
(Note: I'm using a Motorola Time Port P8767 and OEM battery)
