My Review of the Motorola S6965B,
Full Instal Car Kit...
Rev.: 03-20-01-c
Review. Overall, good (0-10 scale, and 10 is perfect), it gets a 6):
- StarTac vintage design (i.e., it's old),
- Works OK,
- Takes two hand to dock the phone (CellPort easier to use (one handed phone docking (with the Time Port, P8767 phone),
- Volume loud, but (Rx) is distorted at any volume,
- Wire gauge typical automotive gauge ~18G,
- Has a dangling cord to inter connect the control unit (instead of just plugging into the bottom of the phone, like the CellPort's); However, this allows private use, with the external antenna still connected),
- Talk out (Tx) audio is good.
- Mic is aimmable,
- RF antenna connection seems not to make a lot of difference maybe a 1-3db improvement (i.e., an ok but, so-so difference?) CallPort's seem like ~3-6db),
- Newest design dose not allow for clip-on extra battery (oldest one dose, S6965A?),
- Doesn't come with any mounting hardware (the Nokia douse),
Phone shuts off after ignition key is turned off, there is no cancel,(on the Nokia car kit, any button push, cancels power off) - I have not tested on the Motorola unit???- The OEM (Motorola, S6965B) unit has a 'control unit' that is an extra piece to be installed, to be hidden (on the CellPort 3000, it is part of the docking unit), so on the Motorola unit, the docking unit is smaller than the CellPort, this is what you would mount to the cars dash.
- There is a privacy handset available?
- Typical price $180
- Recommended source, Discount Cellular...
(Note: I'm using a Motorola Time Port P8767 and OEM battery)
