February 19, 1997 NATIONAL LEAGUE OF CITIES TO SPONSOR CELL TOWER SITING PUBLIC FORUM In response to the growing demand upon local municipalities to site cellular communications transmission facilities in their communities, and the lack of information on the health, safety, property value and aesthetics issues surrounding such siting proposals, the National League of Cities is sponsoring a two hour "Cell Tower Siting Mini Public Forum" for their members, to address these issues. The forum will be held as part of a series of workshops during the the National League of Cities' annual conference to be held next month in Washington, D.C. The two hour Cell Tower Siting Forum will be held on Sunday March 9th at the Washington Hilton Hotel & Towers in Washington, D.C. from 2:45 p.m. until 4:15 p.m. Among those panelists scheduled to participate in the forum are the Mayor from Greensborough, North Carolina, a City Planner from Coconut Creek, Florida, two individuals from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) as well as Bill Covington from AT&T Wireless. We encourage you to alert your elected officals about this forum and ask them to participate in it if they will be attending the annual meeting next month. Ms. Barrie Tavin, the coordinator for this event advised the Alliance that "the National League of Cities recognizes the importance of this issue." It is imperative that your elected officals encourage the National League of Cities to continue their interest in educating their members about this towering debate. For more information on the forum, contact Ms. Barrie Tavin at (202) 626-3020 or (202) 626-3000.
